News from Lakeview
Getting ready for the 2025 season!,
Every two years we drain Lakeview, net the fish, check their condition and measure their growth. In the interim period, we'll have had two years of spawning so we remove the new carp, thin out the roach but leave enough for the catfish and pike. We top up the stock if we've lost any fish to otters or heron. We are fortunate, our lake is in a bowl, surrounded by a mix of trees so we don't get cormorants as they can't get the angle to take off.
We take the opportunity to remove any snags, cut back overhanging trees that are beneath the surface of the water and complete any repairs. Last draining, we removed several tons of silt from the lake and replaced the sluice system too, as seen in the photos. This winter, we will drain and net again. We'll be removing some trees from the island, to open up the swims more, we'll complete some reinforcing of the bank on the island and we'll replace a couple of footbridges around the lake. The lake is fed by several springs so it refills within a couple of weeks.
We'll share photos later in the winter, but in the meantime, here are some of the photos from the last clean up.
