Were the facilities what you expected?

Perfectly adequate for a weeks fishing. Huge bait freezer and a big fridge freezer.

Were you happy with them?

I'm not precious about facilities whilst fishing. As long as the shower is warm and clean (this one is lovely) and the toilet works, I'm happy.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

As long as they are prepared to work for their fish. This is definitely not easy fishing.

Definitely, always a trouble free process when booking and good contact/customer service throughout.

General Comments:

I was the only one on the lake that week. The fish are definitely aware of lines and seemed to move to quiet areas of the lake. I worked hard all week with multiple swim moves trying to stay on the fish. I had 4 takes for the week two lost and two landed. The weather was interesting to say the least. I endured 80+mph winds during the peak of storm Ciaran along with another big low pressure system at the end of the week. The water temp dropped overall by 4 degrees from the start of the week to the end. If your looking for a challenge then this lake is for you. It's definitely not a chuck it and chance it water and requires a lot of thought and patience. This is exactly why I love it and in my opinion it is "proper" gravel pit carp fishing. I have been fishing for 30+ years and carping for 28 of those years and overstocked commercial type venues are not my thing anymore. I always look for a challenge. Like most lakes Larrousi can and does fish well with some phenomenal catches in the feedback section but you can also blank as I found out on my first trip in 2022. I was expecting my week to be easier than it was because I would have said this was the second week the lake/area experienced the big low pressure systems that Autum often brings. Usually the perfect time for a big fish. Unfortunately wasn't to be for me this week but the lake did start to switch on a bit more in the last 24hrs as the water temps settled. I wish I could have stayed for another week.... Massive thanks to Mehdi for helping me jump start my car at the end of the week. He's such a nice bloke and really has created an awesome lake that challenges anglers, yet offers some spectacular rewards at the same time.

General Comments:

Slow week this session no fish for 3 days so moved which resulted with3 carp for me but one was a new PB of 57lb so made the trip in the end.

The venue is lovely. It’s a beautiful lake and the quality of fish is outstanding. The owner is friendly and I would definitely revisit.

The general angling lines website is decent & easy to book on. The payment process is sound however we had an issue with Angling lines - when we booked, all three of us were together at the time and wanted baitboats. We checked and checked and checked again and it said baitboats were allowed. When our final payment was made the info pack stated no baitboats!!! After calling Angling lines their best solution was to offer the people who booked first the pick or the swims before we arrive and then the rest of us draw for what’s left. Sure enough the two that booked first chose the best pegs and consequently had the most fish. Angling lines didn’t offer a satisfactory solution and when we arrived at the lake the other lads on the lake stated that when they booked, it also said baitboats were allowed. Angling lines tried to blame us and the lads we met and took zero responsibility and as a consequence our trip was hampered and we feel devalued. Very poor from angling lines BUT this in no way reflects badly on the venue or owner, both of which were great.

General Comments:

Ring up after booking straight away to check what you’ve booked is what you’re getting as otherwise you may be disappointed but without resolution. *Angling Lines note* We apologise for this misunderstanding, but as stated to the customer we have run the same system for many years without issue. It is stated at point of booking and within the customer area whether it is a baitboat week or not. However, we took the feedback on board at the time and have added further notifications to make it clearer, as of course we do not wish for this to happen. At the time we offered the customer a date change, full refund or the opportunity to have second choice of swim after the group that had originally requested no bait boats, in return for that angler's agreement baitboats could be used.
