How much bait will I need?
We would suggest 20kg at your disposal for the week, per person. This may be a mix of boilies and pellets for example, or just boilies.
What bait do you recommend?
A very high quality boilie along with house pellets (as the carp are fed them) and particle such as maize, depending on the time of year. Shelf life boilies are fine.
If you supply bait on site, will I be able to get more bait during my stay if I need it?
Under usual circumstances there will be plenty of bait to purchase on site.
Is my UK carp set-up suitable for use at your lake?
Absolutely fine, there's no need for stepped up tackle.
What hook size do you recommend?
6's or 4's are perfect depending on the pattern, 5's or 7's if you prefer.
What breaking strain of main line do you recommend?
We would say 15lbs breaking strain. 0.38 - 0.4mm mainline. 15lb for hooklink materials.
What is the surface of the swims - can I use bank sticks?
The swims are all gravel. There's no problem getting bivvy pegs and bank sticks in the ground.
Are any special tactics required?
No not really. A standard UK approach is fine.
Do you recommend use of a bait boat?
Bait boats could prove advantageous under certain circumstances, but are not 100% necessary.
Can I drive all the way around the lake in order to unload?
Normally (weather permitting, there is a little stone track) you can drive within 10m of Cherry Tree, the central swim, the others are no more than 30m from this. A small campervan, VW etc is fine but the site is not suitable for a caravan or motorhome.
Is the lake secure? Can we leave our gear on the bankside if we go out?
Yes we think the lake is as secure as we can make it, however items are left at your own risk.
Can we drink the tap water?
No, the tap water is non potable. Please bring bottled drinking water.
Can you usually get mobile phone coverage at the lake / 3g or 4g coverage?
Generally there is 4G signal in the swims, but it is hit or miss on the site. We have very little at the house for example.
Do you have UK plug points?
Yes.
How far are the nearest supermarket / petrol / tabac?
About 5km away to the nearest fuel, restaurant and tabac. The supermarket is less than 10 minutes drive.
Is MDP Lake good for a social carp fishing trip with friends?
Yes. MDP Lake is an excellent choice for small groups looking for a relaxed social carp fishing holiday in France. The lake has been designed with both fishing and socialising in mind, with all three swims located within approximately 30 metres of each other. This means you can fish comfortably while still chatting with your mates throughout the day.
A central social area provides the perfect place to gather for meals, a drink in the evening, or simply to enjoy the peaceful surroundings together. Unlike many larger French carp lakes where anglers can be spread hundreds of metres apart, MDP Lake offers an intimate, exclusive fishing experience that's ideal for groups of friends who want to spend time together as well as catch quality carp.
Does MDP Lake offer an all-inclusive fly-in carp fishing package?
Yes. MDP Lake offers an optional all-inclusive fly-in carp fishing package, making it easy for anglers to enjoy an exclusive carp fishing holiday in France without the long drive from the UK. Direct flights from London, for example, reach Limoges Airport in around 1 hour 40 minutes, where you'll be met and transferred to the lake.
Tackle hire is provided for up to 2 anglers and consist of very good quality branded tackle items.
Although the venue don't offer a cooked meal package, the Fly & Fish option includes two supermarket trips during your stay, allowing you to stock up on everything you need for the week. It's an ideal option for anglers who want all the convenience of a fly-in holiday while still enjoying the flexibility to cook exactly what they like.
Who does MDP Lake suit?
MDP Lake is perfect for anglers who value the overall fishing experience as much as the size of the carp. If you're looking for a peaceful setting, exclusive fishing, beautiful surroundings and consistently good-quality fish, this is exactly the type of venue you'll appreciate.
The lake is particularly suited to couples, small groups of friends and anglers who prefer intimate waters over busier commercial fisheries. With a healthy average carp weight, exclusive bookings and a very tranquil countryside setting, MDP Lake offers the perfect balance of quality fishing and a relaxing holiday in France.
