About the Lake

The Swims

Three single swims have been placed on the east bank with a social area behind the central swim, because of their close proximity to each other it is possible for all to use the social area whilst keeping your rods out.

Swim 1: The Laurels
Explore the shallows and far margin over-hanging trees. Accessed via a path from the Cherry Tree Swim, there are a number of shallow steps down into the swim.

Swim 2: Cherry Tree
A great central location with the social area and BBQ behind it. This is the middle of the three swims.

Swim 3: Brambles
Located closest to the dam wall, offering the deeper far margin where you can fish to under the trees. There are 3 steps down to the swim.

Things To Know

The 4.5 acre lake has depths ranging from 2-4ft and an average depth of about 3ft. It is deepest near the dam wall and shallowest near the end closest to the house. These conditions are great as the fish respond to favourable conditions very quickly. The carp are never far away from the bottom where the majority of their natural food is.

The river Crassat feeds the lake and maintains a very consistent water level throughout the season. It has an abundance of invertebrate life such as mayflies and case-less caddis - both indicators of exceptional water quality.

The bottom is predominantly silt, with large and small hard clay areas. These are well worth finding as they can be a great place to present a bait. There are also abundant "carp holes" dotted all over which also can be used to the anglers advantage.

There is no weed, no known snags, no poisson chat, catfish or sturgeon. There are a few roach, rudd and perch but no chub, tench or bream to interfere with the fishing. The lake is fully fenced to deter any coypu, otters etc.

As with many French lakes, crayfish are present, but actively trapped. It’s best to be prepared just in case and we recommend you use tiger nuts, take shrink wrap for your hookbaits or use plastic baits - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France. With these simple measures in place, they should cause you no problem.

The owners live on site in a house to one end of the lake, they are on hand to help if needed but otherwise will leave you to enjoy your holiday.

Equipment Provided

A landing net, retainer sling, tripod and air unhooking mat is provided on each swim free of charge and these must be used.

There is also a barrow provided that can be used for loading and unloading from the car park. Under normal conditions it is possible to park about 10m behind Cherry Tree swim, it's then a short "barrow" to each swim (approximately 30m between swims).

Campervans

A small campervan to VW size is fine, but the site is not suitable for a caravan or motorhome.

The Surroundings

Nature enthusiasts will be in their element here, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife. Fire salamanders, marble newts, large green lizards, grass snakes, fire-bellied toads, and glowing insects thrive in this idyllic setting. Behind the swims, badgers and stone martens make their homes in the woods, adding to the area’s wild charm.

For birdwatchers, the lake is a haven. You might catch sight of a kingfisher perched on your rod, while buzzards, kites, egrets, and even an osprey can often be seen soaring above the water.
