Catch report, 30th Apr

Last week saw 5 anglers book the lake ...which is a big shout unless you´re very active as the fish keep moving around. The lads tried to be as active as they could and did catch and all but 1 smashed their PB's with fish upto 63lb. All the fish were caught on our lake bait with our mix of maize n barley.

Update, 20th Apr

Last week saw once again freezing temperatures with small activity from the fish ...

This week has been the same again which when it's warm in the day but cold in the night it's slightly confusing for anglers,I would recommend at the moment until we get so temps of around 12' at night to not use so much bait and fish for a bite at a time..

I´ve noticed some lads just using far too much bait for the situations and are struggling for no need...

Turning up with 40k of boilie is not the way... if your going to bring your own bait then 5k is plenty, just my advice to try to save you a penny or two :-)

Interview with the owner, 17th Apr

We have a fantastic group of lakes on our website, which are a credit to our brilliant owners and all their hard work. We asked Sky Lake's owner Andy a few questions about being a lake owner...

1. When did you discover carp fishing and how did you come to be here at the lake?
I discovered carp fishing through my dad, when he brought me fishing about 40 years ago. After that I extensively fished in the UK - week in, week out. I ended up here as a retirement thing initially, without the intention for a full on business...

2. What’s the best and worst part of being the owner?
The best part is answering to no one, being at one with nature & seeing the joy that catching a good fish can bring to an angler. Making friends & seeing people return year after year are certainly also among the best aspects. The worse part has to be seeing someone struggle for whatever the reason, you always want to see the anglers happy.

3. What would you say is the best feature of your lake?
The best feature is the surroundings we've got. I've fished many lakes in France and I have to say it's beautiful here... No motorways, trains or overhead power cables...

4. When people arrive is there anything they are surprised by?
The lake's natural beauty and the fact that we do keep it very nice here as well.

5. What is the most common mistake you see anglers make at your lake?
Having preconcieved ideas instead of waiting to see what the lake, swim and fish dictate.

6. Finally, what is the one most important piece of advice you’d give to anglers visiting your lake soon?
My best advice is to turn up with a view to being adaptive and understanding the place. It's not a runs water, the fish are fished for every day and have been for many years. Fish your own swim without concern for what someone else is doing as every swim has the ability to be as good as the next swim. It's all about applications...
