News from Villefond lake

Jan 2010

Proposed winter work...., 1st Jan

This winter at Villefond is going to be a very busy time for us... here’s a brief outline of some of the improvements we will be making;

* we are implementing a winter feeding program which we’ll increase as spring rolls around so that the excellent growth rates we’ve seen to date continue

* whilst in the grip of winter we’ll attack some of the brambles that have crept in from around the edges and clear some of the bigger areas of brush while they lay dormant. Keeping them down during the growing seasons is a big job for us so this will help enormously... we are very proud of the appearance of our lake.

* we will be widening the swims so they fit the larger bivvies more comfortably

* we will be digging the feeder stream out. It’s silted up & this has been restricting the flow a little.

Generally anything that needs attention we will be addressing during the following weeks making sure Lac Du Villefond is ever improving & creating the best atmosphere we can offer for you.

End of year report..., 1st Jan

2009 at Villefond has excelled all expectations. Although not heavily fished those who had the experience where more than impressed. From keen amateurs to season pro’s we had the full spectrum of anglers with everyone commenting on the quality and average size of the fish.

At the beginning of the season the average fish was sitting at a whopping 36lb with lots of upper 30’s, 40’s, and a massive common touching 50lb! With the average being so high you’d assume the catch rate would be lower but by no means was that the case.

Villefond is not a run’s water, with no fish less than 24lb ever being caught, yet large catches were still common from start to finish of 2009.

As the year progressed and the seasons went by big fish continued to come out fighting hard and often with the average size caught dropping slightly with a handful of fish in the upper twenties came out, making the average on closing a still whopping 33lb.

Also in 2009 the first of the catfish was caught weighing a huge 52lb and being one of only three we stocked we knew it was the middle sized one of the three and had put on an unbelievable 22lb in two years!

Being further south than some lake’s the weather is that bit hotter and 2009’s summer was scorching hot! Great for those lazy days while you wait for the next fish, and the new shower block added in 2009 meant anglers could cool in a refreshing shower.

Spending time at Villefond is experiencing the tranquil morning with mist rising off the surface of the lake, the sun creeping above the tree line, the moorhens squabbling and arguing back and forth across the lake. The dragon fly lands on your rod tip as you relax imaging what mighty creatures lurk, feeding down by your bait.

Then the electrifying sound of the bite alarm as line screams off your reel and the instant adrenaline rush as you leap up and run at your rods sending everything around you somersaulting!

You lift the rod and the excitement builds as you feel the unmistakable pull of a large carp and your rod bends almost in half. You feel half excitement and half fear in case the monster gets loose.

Seeing the fish pulled into the net you feel relief as you have finally tamed the beast. The smug feeling as you look across to your buddy and see the envy in his eyes as he turns hopefully to his rods as if will alone could make them come to life!

You carefully unhook, weigh and photograph your prize. Then you walk to the waters edge and place it gently back into its alien world. You return to yours, grateful for the encounter and forever hopeful the day will bring many more.

2009 at Villefond has been great and the best is yet to come!

Sorry the photos aren't great.

2 x Sixties in a Week!,

Some great news just come from our lake Lac Du Villefond a amazing catch report. We had four guys fishing our lake who have been before and knew our lake well. One angler told me ever year he comes it has been better than the year before so they had high hopes. His personal best carp was a good forty and he has caught some stunning fish from our lake.

The fish have just come out of winter and have just started to switch on the feed and our monsters have started to search out bait. The guys were using the house baits and sweetcorn , fishing pop ups and sweetcorn over a scattering of freebies. The catch report was as follows:

62.10,
62.4,

52.12,
51,
50.8,

49,
48 common,
46.8,
45.8,
44,

39.12,
35,
34.8,
31,
30lb linear

12, 10 and 5 other stockies.......

This was the again the best year as each angler smashed their pb's and what was really great for the lake was the 3 50lb+ fish that they caught were new 50's for the lake. It was their first trip over the 50lb barrier and they join loads of other fish to reach that magical number in our lake. All round a great week!
