Details of your catches:

4 Anglers 11 Carp 4 x 40+ (to 49lb 8oz)
3 x 30+ (to 39lb)
4 x 20+ (to 27lb)
1 Sturgeon
Several small Carp around 2lb

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Sweetcorn over hemp or boilie bottom bait fairly even split

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes because we’ve been before

Were you happy with them?

As a drive and survive venue they are ok
The food package is excellent.
The new cabin is excellent.
The pegs are best described as rugged.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Yes

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Very much so

General Comments:

In wet conditions cars cannot be driven to the pegs and the path from the caravan to peg 8 is too boggy to carry tackle, so it’s a long way to hump your gear with only little carts provided. I would recommend checking conditions before you travel and bring your own barrow. (We had powered barrows sat at home doing nothing, if only we had known……)
The fishing was tough this week with very cold first few days then scorching hot for the rest. All credit to Ian and Ron who got to grips with it and had descent rewards accounting for most of the haul.

Details of your catches:

Tough week with only 7 fish landed. 24lb, 29lb, 31lb, 34lb, 42lb, 44lb & 63lb Sturgeon.

Had lots of knocks and screaming runs, but proved very difficult to hook.

Made us re-think tactics and try different presentations and approaches, Mark spent time with us helping us with rigs etc.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

All fish caught on boilie, Cell/Essential Cell. Glugged boilie seemed to work best, critically balanced.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes, as per website. No surprises.

Shower was hot, toilet facilities in shower block and static caravan were ok.

Were you happy with them?

Yes.

We did bring a generator for power/charging etc as there is no electricity, although Debbie does offer to charge any batteries and bring ice packs. (Local shops do not sell ice).

General Comments:

A tough lake for sure, but addictive to the point it kept you trying to out fox the fish, which for us was the attraction. They definitely pick up your bait, mouth it and then quickly reject it.

Water level was down by about 2ft, which did make some of the swims a bit harder to manage bait boats, netting/releasing fish etc. (4, 6 & 8). You will need waders.

Swims down the bottom end, 4,5 & 6 produced all fish and at night the water was alive with big crashing and jumping about, quieter during the day.

Apart from the 24lb fish, all our fish was caught at night, Sturgeon just as it was getting light, so be prepared. (1am through to 8am) and then the lake went quiet as the sun came up.

Overall a great week, we did make it a social event too, so probably not as quiet as we could have been and on reflection that probably did effect the margin fishing.

We have all said that we would go back and have learnt so much from this trip.
