News from Villefond lake

Apr 2014

Top Rod, 20th Apr

Great news from the lake already this week, on his first night Rod hazledene landed a fish known as then long two tone at a massive 51lb 8oz.

This is the first time this fish has gone over 50lb but it was expected and now this is the 8th different fish over 50lb caught from Villefond!! An absolutly stunning carp this one and it was caught on the new house bait.

This is the 4th 50lb+ carp caught from the lake already this year and the big girls havent come out yet! Whats really exciting is the amount of 47-49lb carp caught regularly, end of this year early next they will join the exclusive 50lb club and the amount of 50lb+ carp in the lake is going to be even more insane! pics to follow, Mark

The History of 'Slate Grey' , 16th Apr

Rob Inns has done a couple of small features for our blog recently on the history of some of Villefond's residents. Here's the latest...

'With the capture of Slate Grey last week I have decided to delve into my archives once again to give you a little bit of history on this mighty old warrior.

Slate Grey got her name quite obviously from her grey colour which coupled with her massive size makes her an easily recognisable fish. Another feature I use for identification is the flat edge on her lower tail lobe.

Slate grey was actually the very first fish caught from Villefond under the Lamberts management and I was the lucky angler who caught her on that occasion. She weighed 29lb 8oz and was my first fish of a 30+ fish haul that opening week.

By the time she visited the bank again in May 2010 she was already over 40lb, 40lb 8oz to be exact and had shown an amazing growth rate. For the next few years she became a main stay on the 40’s list but never went heavier than 45lb (which was in April 2012 ). But she was not destined to remain a mid 40 for ever In June 2013 she joined the 50+ list when she was banked at 51lb.

She has gone on to become a P.B for many anglers over the last few months including Lake Owner John Lambert who caught her at 51lb in January 2014. She continues to go from strength to strength and lasts weeks capture saw her biggest weight to date at 53lb 2oz.

Slate Grey is a proper old Villefond warrior and a fish I’d dearly like to get my hands on again one day.

A New Article On Villefond, 3rd Apr

Chris Blunt was out fishing the venue last season with 3 friends, here’s his account of the busy week that followed…

Take a look at this little 8 acre gem I fished with 3 of my mates, Carl ‘Bob’ Byworth, Terry ‘Trigger’ Jennings & Chris ‘de Burger’ Goddard who had never picked up a rod let alone seen a carp.  It started on a stormy evening, we left Swindon for Dover to catch the 0420 ferry arriving in Calais at 0630 with a 400mile drive in front of us down through some of the most picturesque countryside I’ve seen.  7 hours later we pulled in at this wonderful looking lake.

That’s enough about the journey; after all it’s the fishing we came for.

It seems so easy to catch a 40lb carp but let me tell you, these carp are very riggy. After picking our swims, setting up the mountain of gear we brought, we settled down to a excellent evening meal, The carp were doing their thing;  putting on their usual acrobatic show, we couldn’t wait to get the rods out & settle in for the night as we were expecting non stop action.
