Tips For Targeting Arnold, 16th Aug

After a really long spawning our fish are unusually really down in weight at this time with some of the big girls 10-11lb down. They are now feeding like mad trying to pack the weight on and get to their normal weights before winter!

Most of our 50lb+ fish are down in the mid forty pound range except for a massive male who goes by the name of Arnold. Arnold never drops more than a few pounds during spawning so at such times he is the fish most people want to target.

Just this week Arnold has come out again at a massive 56lb and I decided to write a quick note about what I have noticed about arnold that can help future anglers target this monster in a lake full of monsters.

1) Arnold Favours a particular side of the lake, he is always caught even from stocking as a young fish, on the side of the lake as you first aproach Villefond, swims 1-4. Only once has Arnold been caught on the other side of the lake and that was during spawning when his normal routine was broken and he would have been chasing the girls around.

2) Arnold Favours a particular food, despite the house plum boilies being the most popular by far and accounting for most of the big fish during the year, both times this year Arnold has been caught it was on the same not as often used house Creamy boilie.

I hope this helps anyone looking to target this beast of a fish and happy hunting

Feedback 11th - 19th July, 22nd Jul

Here's an email we recieved from the anglers out at Villefond last week...

Hi Heather,

Myself and a couple of my friends have been over to the above lake. We went over there on the 11th of July and returned 19th July, I would like to say how fantastic our trip was!

I know bad news is much easier to spread and good news isn't spoken about much, but on this occasion it was fantastic.

We felt extremely welcomed from the moment we arrived at the lake to the moment we left. Everything was done to a high standard from the food to the organisation of the lake. We would highly recommend this lake to anyone. If you could place our praise on a blog or whatever you guys do I would be so grateful.

I would also like to add angling lines were also brilliant in organising trip and having been easy to contact to answer any questions we have.  We are all very grateful and we will be going back to that lake for our future trips.

Kind Regards,
Paul Moyle

Spawning Update, 7th Jul

The last month on Lac Du villefond has been a really bad one. The weather has been so unpredictable with heat spells then cold and rainy spells it has really messed up the spawning of our fish. They didnt know if they were coming or going and as a result the fishing has suffered with some weeks the carp not feeding the others they have been feeding but cautiously.

This has made for some bad catch reports and some throwing of toys from prams but the light is at the end of the tunnel. Finally the fish have finished spawning with one of our known carp being landed , Dorian - normally a 47lb mirror. She is known to spawn heavily and has indeed this time coming out nearly 10lbs lighter at 38lb and with wounds from spawning on her flanks! Unfortunatley we didnt get pictures from last week but this is a great sign that spawning has finally ended and the signs all point to the fish returning to feeding to get there wieght back on.

We did so well over winter with our feeding campaign of the nutriously great house bait keeping our winter loses of carp down to just one small 20lb fish. However spawning saw us lose two fish - one un-named mirror of 45lb and a known fish Micks mirror who was one of the many fish about to turn to 50lb, last out at 49lb.

Its a shame to lose such nice big fish but unfortunately in Villefond there are so many big fish that if a fish dies its going to be a big one. Now finally with the stressful spawning (for both us and the fish!) done we can look forward to seeing some known fish on the bank again.

Merci
Mark

Mark Lambert explains how, as Villefond grew from an average lake into the big fish water we have today, an unforeseen perk of the job appeared.
