News from Villefond lake

Jan 2014

First Fifty in the New Year, 7th Jan

Fishery owner John Lambert went fishing on Villefond for literally a couple of hours on Jan the 5th 2014 with two rods and a couple of PVA bags of the house bait and caught his PB a monster mirror known as Slate Grey at 51 lb!

A great result and just goes to show how the right bait in the right spot with the right rig can quickly result in a stunning fish!

End Of Year Report, 1st Jan

2013 has been a great year on our lake, we were kept really busy with lots of bookings and we saw lots of new faces as well as some familiar ones. We had the strangest year for weather and it really effected the spawning of the carp badly and we lost one of our biggest fish, Arthur the original common which had reached 55lb+.

However, the other carp have continued their massive growth rates, our average is still over 40lb+ although we now have a few carp in the 15-20lb+ range that have been bred from the monsters in our waters.

We keep very accurate records of every capture of our fish, which can be seen on our facebook page for the fish called "villefond fish". So we know our fish pretty well but the lake still threw up some surprises, like a 37lb carp never caught before but that came out twice this year and a common that broke the 50lb barrier out of nowhere. A conservative estimate of our carp over the 40lb mark would be at least 60! We don’t count the fish until they reach the 40lb mark.

We lost Arthur but gained a couple more 50lb+carp, firstly Max, one we expected to go over 50lb, then Slate Grey we also predicted would and the Fat common we didn’t see coming. We are expecting quite a few more to break the 50lb barrier for the first time in early 2014 so watch this space. With the new 50’s we have a total of 6 fish over the magic 50lb barrier and we are hoping for a couple to go 60lb soon if not now! An amazing amount of huge fish in a lake only around 7 acres!

We have always said Villefond is a special lake and will be one of the very best one day and the fish are showing no signs of slowing down so we are definitely on track and the potential of this lake is unreal! The fish are very clever and always tricky to catch but no other lake can offer the average size we can and a sensible chance of a real monster. The food package for the fishermen has also continued to please even the burliest fishermen (check out the feed back!) and the house bait has caught massive amounts of fish and kept them pilling on a healthy weight!

Improvements we hope to get done during the quieter winter months include the normal bush and bramble removal and some nice new swim improvements. We are also planning to purchase some new un hooking mats.

Once again we would like to thank every that came to the lake and that have booked to come see us in 2014 already, we really hope Villefond continues to make great memories for you and keeps smashing personal bests!

Happy fishing in 2014!

Nick Does it AGAIN!!, 9th Nov

November 9th 2013 and Nick Johnson and Dave Proctor return and  for Nick his forth visit to Lac Du Villefond, they were the last booking of the season the same as the year before.

On their last visit to Villefond they landed  1 x 20,   6 x 30’s to 39lb 10oz,   6 x 40’s to 47lb 8oz,  2 x 50’s to 54lb 4oz. So they had to go some to beat that, and go some they did, well unfortunately Dave struggled with a few lost fish so didn’t land any this time but Nick certainly did land some monsters. He went one better than last year and this year he landed 3 x 50lb carp to 54lb 7oz and new personal best again! Nick also had a 47lb mirror a few thirties and a few below the 30lb mark.

The exciting bit for me as the fisheries manager is every one of the 5 fish over the 50lb mark that Nick caught were different fish, none were the same fish and two of the 50lb fish he had this trip were carp going 50lb for the first time! For people that follow our fish on facebook (under villefond fish) will know Max the fish and that we were expecting him to go 50lb soon so it was exciting for me to finally get the news he has.

The fish have really piled on the weight at amazing rates this year as our house bait has been the main source of bait put in the lake by far. So for me again this is great news and more proof what great bait and how good it is for the fish. So all round this has been a great week and it’s looking good for my winter blog with an amazing amount of monster carp to catch!

Thanks again guys, great fishing! Mark
