Details of your catches:

Over 1300lb in fish between us. Biggest one was 47lb, plenty of grass carp in the 30's and a 20lb koi carp

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Fishing on the far bank with a bait boat was the very best bet to fish Mas bas

Were the facilities what you expected?

Better than we expected. The house is roomy, well equipped, comfortable, clean and plenty of cover on the outside.

Were you happy with them?

Very happy. There were 7 adults and a toddler in our group and still had plenty of space.

Details of your catches:

A fantastic weeks fishing with 60 fish with a total weight of 1600lb 5 fish to over 40lb. Fishing along the margins using tiger nuts is the secret. The lake is very well maintained and fishing from the house is so easy. An idyllic setting for anglers and family alike.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Tiger nuts in a long string or ball proved best for us. It eliminated pest fish and lead to some large fish. Early morning and evening were most productive using lots of boilie and pellet mix to stimulate feeding. In the afternoon try stalking we had some big fish doing this and lots of fun.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes, the house is great and suited our needs perfectly, with a big well appointed outside area it was great for bbq’s. The large pool is ideal for cooling off. A special mention to our hosts Gilles and Sharon who were so helpful and attentive.

Were you happy with them?

We were two anglers and 5 family members. The fishing was great, but the whole family loved the relaxed setting. There is lots to do in the area if you fancy a break from fishing.

Details of your catches:

One angler out of a group of 7 was always going to be tough, especially with four pensioners and a nine year old all wanting a catch a fish but we soon realised that trying to fish with multiple rods was a waste of time at Mas Bas! Armed with one rod each and mainly fishing mornings and evenings we set about some rather casual carping. We fished 6 mornings and evening in total and caught over 40 fish including 4 x 40's, whilst not fishing very hard at all and mainly spending our time relaxing by the pool. It really is the perfect lake / facilities for a relaxing family holiday! Stalking / float fishing was really fun! The water in places is shallow enough to watch the fish stirring up the bottom around your float. The anticipation beats the sound of the alarms that's for sure... Forgive our pictures. Amateur hour extended into photography! :)

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Lots of bait, tight to the far margins was a winning tactic with plenty of house pellet, 20mm boilies and tiger nuts. We started with double 20mm hook baits but found 2 or 3 tigers, topped with a bright 12mm pop up seemed to give us the most consistent action and less catfish and grass carp. The last three days I spent the afternoons float fishing in the shallows and had multiple fish up to and including our biggest of the week at 45.12. Great fun and really took me back to where it all started for me as a child, float fishing on an old estate lake for carp and crucians. Even the grass carp were great fun for our group but if you are serious anglers after the bigger carp that Mas Bas holds, I'd imagine they could get a little tiresome.

Were the facilities what you expected?

The house was fantastic. Really functional and having the main kitchen / dining space opening out onto the terrace was perfect for the daily long, lazy lunches and evening BBQ's. Plenty of fridge space for food and drinks. All the rooms were all appointed and the front two double bedrooms having beautiful views out over the lake. If booked for a larger party there are also two additional bedrooms on the lower ground floor that can be added at an additional cost. It is worth noting that if booking in summer the lower ground floor is wonderfully cool therefore those bedrooms are ideal for those that struggle with the heat. Washing and drying facilities on site were also handy, especially if travelling with children.

Were you happy with them?

Extremely happy.

1000% Taking 6 non anglers on a 'fishing holiday' was slightly nerve-wracking however Mas Bas did not disappoint! Everyone had an amazing time and the tranquil setting allows for total relaxation and reflection. Plenty of nature on hand and we spent many misty mornings watching the deer on the rolling sides of the valley. The local town is 10 minutes by car and has everything you would need - supermarket, excellent butcher and bakery, pizza shop, creperie, cafe / bar. Look out for the monthly food markets in the town centre! Well worth a visit.

The hosts Sharon and Gilles were AMAZING! We suffered some van issues on the way down which resulted in having to leave the van 5 hours North of Mas Bas and cramming everything into a small hire car. Both Sharon and Gilles gave up their time and helped us liaise with the French garage ref repairs which was super helpful as our French is rusty (to say the least). Nothing was too much trouble. Sharon & Gilles thank you so, so much for going well and truly above and beyond. We will definitely be back and next time we promise not to be as much of a problem! :) NB. If eating out, definitely visit Gilles recommendations. All were absolutely spot on!

General Comments:

So many memories made... My son landing a 44lb fish on his own, doubling his PB before I was even set up! 'I think it's quite big Dad' :) My father in law's smile after landing a his first carp. Float fishing in those shallows at dusk. Watching our parents walking around the lake to 'get their steps in' with a glass of red in hand. Magical. Thank you Mas Bas.
