Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Fishing tight to the margins and into the weed beds. Bottom baits outperformed pop ups using lead drop off systems. Heli safe etc. Cell was very productive

Were the facilities what you expected?

No. The far bank where we fished was poor. It still needs a lot of attention. All of the trees to the bank had been cut down for insurance purposes, but that left us exposed to the baking sun. We had very little shade. A storm came through which is not Nigel’s fault and I lost a lot of clothing and items into the surrounding areas.

Were you happy with them?

No. We had a toilet which is always great. The bank I believe is the north bank, (entrance to the lake) is well equipped. That doesn't help if your not on that bank.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Yes. Fishing is hard but it is an old gravel pit, not a runs water. You need to net baits as the crayfish will whittle your 18 mm baits to nothing in 8 hours. Coypu are a problem and are all over your baited areas. I managed to catch two. Although they aren’t strictly necessary a boat does make light work of baiting up and placing baits accurately

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes definitely. I had many issues and concerns but Angling Lines resolved them all. Once I’d followed their instructions it was easy. The whole process will be easier second time around.

General Comments:

Nice place to fish but it needs attention. Access tracks are problematic. The crayfish need to be addressed.

Fake corn was best as hookbaits were constantly hounded by crayfish.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Definitely not. Have fished here twice before on North Bank, so wanted to try out Woods bank this time. Was told by the owner (Nigel) that showers, electricity, a new cabin with fridge etc would be available. No fridge, no lighting in cabin, no water supply in cabin, shower not working. Nets broken or had holes, slings falling apart and unhooking Mats cracked/ripped.

Were you happy with them?

Not at all.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

After my first couple of trips here, my expectations were high. Nigel had been an outstanding host and had gone out of his way to make our trip a special one.
On this occasion I have no idea what happened? We were promised the world yet Nigel delivered nothing. I should receive a refund as the things promised were NOT delivered. If I had known, provisions could have been made to overcome things (battery packs, lighting etc taken with me). I feel like I paid for something I ultimately didn't get. Then, on the final day, the owner Nigel had the ordacity to ban both myself and one of my friends due to apparently leaving the place a mess. This was far from the truth. The showers and kitchen areas on both banks were filthy on arrival and we all left both banks far cleaner than when we arrived. Nigel's actions cast a shadow over what was my cousin's stag do and also left me and my friend gobsmacked. So much so that we just packed up and left, without requesting any kind of refund.

To clarify, our website does not currently advertise the additional facilities on Woods Bank as these are not yet completed. Whilst we fully appreciate you did have a phone conversation with Nigel after booking, where he had hoped these extra facilities would be in place, we had not confirmed this was complete. We’re very careful to advertise exactly what you can expect at a venue and would not have pre-empted this. The broken net was replaced as soon as Nigel was made aware, if informed of any other damaged equipment during the stay he would have been able to help. We are genuinely sorry that you were disappointed by the lack of facilities on the woods bank specifically and appreciate that when this is done it will be a really nice feature to have.

Being my 3rd time I’d happily recommend. Woods bank is still a working progress when we went but is moving forward. Will be an outstanding venue once done and good for a bite.

Listen to Nigel the lake owner, if he says small baits work well then use them. We all fished different methods and the most successful came on double maize as hookbaits

General Comments:

It's clear that a lot of work has gone into this lake and that is credit to Nigel. A friendly and helpful owner who will go out of his way to ensure you have a great stay while on his lake. Always there for advice when we needed it and knew where to put those who might be struggling to catch. The fish are pristine! We had two lake records in the week, the first being a common that went 60lb and the second a mirror at 57lb! The potential for fish growth in this lake is massive. The facilities were perfect for what we required. Plenty of storage for bait and our own food. Shower facilities were comfortable and the kitchen was big enough to accommodate us easily. Thoroughly recommend trying this lake out, you won't be disappointed!
